Imagined Paparazzi Photos

What if someone snapped a picture of President Bush choking on that pretzel? What do TomKat read to little Suri over Saturday morning breakfast? This series of fake paparazzi photos by Alison Jackson answer these questions and more. Great stuff — Bush with the Rubick’s Cube is classic! Caution, NSFW.

Celebrity Endorsements

With election season in full swing, one has to ask, shouldn’t celebrities pick our president? What follows is a rundown of the candidates and their celebrity endorsers (source):

Hillary Clinton

Maya Angelou, Magic Johnson, Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand, Rob Reiner, John Grisham, Ted Danson, Billie Jean King, Quincy Jones, Martha Stewart, Jerry Springer, Jenna Jameson, 50 Cent

Barack Obama

Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Halle Berry, George Clooney, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Anniston, Scarlett Johanson, Zach Braff, Warren Buffett, David Geffen, Matt Damon

John Edwards

Kevin Bacon, Tim Robbins, Bonnie Raitt, John Mellencamp, Madeleine Stowe, Harry Belafonte, Russell Simmons.

Mitt Romney

Donny and Marie Osmond, Pat Boone

John McCain

Curt Schilling, Wilford Brimley

Mike Huckabee

Chuck Norris, Ric Flair, Ted Nugent

Rudy Guiliani

Bo Derek, Robert Duvall, Kelsey Grammer, Cheryl Ladd, Dennis Miller, Adam Sandler, Tom Selleck, Donald Trump, Ben Stein, Pat Robertson, Jeff Gordon, Mary Higgins Clark.

… Obama clearly has the A-list celebs behind him, including the most powerful force in the universe (Oprah) and two of People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ winners (George Clooney and Matt Damon). Hillary’s celebs are running a distant second, though one shouldn’t underestimate the voting power of the porn (Jenna Jameson), white trash (Jerry Springer) and east coast rapper (50-Cent) crowds. Guiliani clearly owns the support of most republican celebrities — further proof that he’s not an electable republican. And finally, Huckabee has the full backing of crazy celebrities who are likely to kick your ass. According to CNN:

Rocker Ted Nugent took his enthusiasm for [Huckabee] to the next level, brandishing two machine guns at an August concert and spewing expletives against Huckabee’s would-be Democratic rivals. Nugent advised Barack Obama to “suck on my machine gun” and suggested that Hillary Clinton “might want to ride one of these into the sunset” before calling her a “worthless” … well, let’s just say it rhymes with witch.

… Oh Iowa, thank you so much for making Mike Huckabee relevent!

In closing, can you say President Obama, People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ for 2008?

The Moral Instinct

A great (but loooong) article from the New York Times Magazine about the science and nature of morality.

Jennifer 8. Lee

As a regular reader of the New York Times, I’ve sometimes noticed articles printed with the byline Jennifer 8. Lee. I always took this as a curious typo, but today I decided to dig a little deeper. It turns out that Jennifer 8. Lee is the correct name of a reporter and CityRoom blogger at the New York Times. Furthermore, according to Wikipedia, many Chinese and Japanese names contain numbers written as characters, and the number 8 symbolizes prosperity and good luck.

Further evidence that you learn something new everyday.

This also makes me think of the couple who tried to name their son 4Real.

Relaunching GreenStrat

I’m excited to tell you that I’m relaunching one of my pet web-projects today: greenstrat.com. I originally launched the site over a year ago, but after working really hard to get the site setup, I got burned out and let it languish. Then my life got all topsy-turvy, and I never picked it up again. But I’ve always been really excited about this idea for a video-based guitar website, and now after a bit of retooling, I think I’m ready to relaunch the site with a renewed effort to keep it going. So check it out!

Thank You for Your Support in 2007!

It’s hard to believe it’s been only three short years since I began blogging on robbecker.com (formerly robbecker.net for those who can remember that far back). It’s been another great year for my website, and I’m happy to report that I’m enjoying the site more than ever.

While 2006 was a year of big changes, things really settled in this year, and I was able to focus my energy on adding content while improve the site with lots of small tweaks. I also got the ball rolling on two new sites — greenstrat.com and thekindwine.com — which I hope will come of age in 2008. Yes, my web empire is growing and soon it will take over the world!!! Mwaahaha!

And even though this is all a hobby for me, it’s you — all my friends and family, and all those strangers out there — who validate and support what I do here. Just this past December, robbecker.com received over 800 visitors and 7000 page views! That boggles my mind. And financially, the earnings I made through quasi-donations from my Amazon.com Associates Program grew 83% from 2006! That money has gone a long way towards covering my website expenses over the past two years.

And so, with a bow of my head and a tip of my hat I say, with the immortal words of those Bartles and James guys, thank you for your support!
