American Idol: Presidential Edition

Last night during the American Idol finale Ryan Seacrest proudly announced that the 63.4 million votes that were cast to decide the winner were “more than any president in the history of our country has received.”  This got me thinking.

American Idol is surely this country’s biggest phenomenon since the advent of democracy.  And with season five of American Idol getting its highest ratings ever, clearly Idol’s popularity is on the rise.  Meanwhile, democracy’s popularity is, well, not so much.

Maybe it’s time democracy got a makeover (an extreme makeover, if you will).  And so I present American Idol: Presidential Edition.

Taylor Hicks Wins!

Three months ago I declared that Taylor Hicks is my Idol.  Last night America agreed, declaring Taylor Hicks the winner of American Idol, season 5.  I don’t really have much to say about the whole thing that hasn’t already been said ad nauseum, except to admit, I’m a little giddy.

SOUL PATROL!!! Whooo!

My City’s FICO Score is Better Than Yours!

Today Standard & Poor’s (of S&P 500 fame) upgraded New York City’s credit rating, giving the city its best credit rating ever.  This kind of news sets my fiscally conservative heart aflutter (I *heart* you Michael Bloomberg).

Get a Mac

This new ad series from Apple, Get a Mac, is great.  If you haven’t seen them on TV, check them out here.  And this is coming from a long time PC user (who harbors a secret yearning to be a Mac user).

Please Excuse the Mess

If things look a little bit funky at robbecker.com it’s because I’m in the process of moving the site over to a new host server.  I finally outgrew my old server and so I’m packing things up, renting the ol’ U-haul (this is all figurative of course) and moving into a bigger place. So far the new views look nice and now I’m just hoping the movers don’t break anything and none of the pipes leak.  So please excuse the mess as I set up on my new server.  Hopefully things will all be up and running by the end of the week.
